Supplies Needed for this Valentine Garland Printable:
You will need:
- Regular copy machine or printer paper, letter size or A4
- The printable Valentine Garland pages. (Download Design #021) available in my freebie library—get the password by filling out the form at the bottom of this page)
- Twine: 4-6 feet in length. (1.2m – 1.82 m)

Step 1: Get My Free Valentine Garland Printable
Get the free Printable (Download Design #021) from my freebie library (get the password to the library in the form at the bottom of this post).
Step 2: Print
Print the pages onto sturdy cardstock that will fit into your printer. It’s sized 8″ by 10″ (20 cm by 25 cm) and will fill a standard sized printer paper whether it’s A4 or US sized.
Step 3: Cut the Colored Heart Designs Out
After you print both pages of the PDF, cut out the 15 fancy hearts included on page 1. Leave page 2 alone for now, you’ll use it in the next step. You may find it helpful to sort the hearts according to size, shape, and color. You’ll use 2 hearts for each folded section and, although I thought it worked very well with mismatched hearts, you might want them to match up exactly if that sort of thing is important to you.
Step 4: Arrange Hearts onto Page 2 Template
Set the designed hearts onto the outlines on the template. THEY WILL NOT MATCH EXACTLY. Simply place them so that the rounded edges fit into the rounded edges of the template areas. See notes 1 and 2 in the above photo for detail. After they’re where you want them, glue them to the template.
Cut along the edge so that you have 6 sets that each have 2 hearts. See note 3 in the photo.
After that, carefully fold them. If you’ve used identical hearts, the outlines will match well. If you’ve used hearts of different shapes and sizes, they won’t match. No matter, they’ll work either way.
You can stop here if you wish and add your hearts to the twine right now or you can continue on to the next set of directions.
Step 5: Glue Prepared Hearts to Decorative Papers
Unfold the hearts and glue them to decorative papers.
After that, fold them again
While holding them folded, trim about 1/4″ (6 mm) away from the printed heart so that some of the decorative paper shows.
Step 6 Add Hearts to Twine
Cut a length of Twine: 4-6 feet in length. (1.2m – 1.82m) Fold each end over to make a loop for hanging and tie a knot.
Hang your folded hearts over the twine and slide to arrange the spacing. Glue the hearts together. Your garland will be double sided and look as good from the back as it does in the front.
Since I had lots of muslin scrap fabric, I took pieces that were 18″ (45 cm) long and tore them into narrow strips. I tied the muslin onto the twine and made bows. I glued some of the extra hearts to the bows as well.
