About Flowerdance Studio

Hi, I’m Catherine.

It’s nice to meet you and I’m so happy you’re here. I’m always been an artsy/craftsy sort of person and if you are too, you’ve come to the right place! Even if you’ve never made any arts and crafts at all, come and play with me here in the studio. I bet you’ll have a marvelous time!

If you’re like me, you’ve dabbled in lots of crafts, and you might even have a stash of doodles and drawings hidden away.  Sometimes, you even show those drawings to people. They just love your work and it’s made you wonder how you could easily reproduce all the cute images you’ve come up with and print them on all sorts of products. For years, I wondered “how do they do that?” whenever I looked at stationery, printed kitchen towels, patterns on textiles, etc. I didn’t have a degree in graphics…I was clueless.  Like me, you might have searched online for a way to use what you’d created so you could make all sorts of cool things and hopefully, make a business out of putting your art on products that people might want to buy. I felt the same way!

I had a degree in Elementary Education and taught little kids for years and years. I took class after class and eventually, I became an Art Teacher. I taught at 2 schools and reached almost 400 students every week for 20 more years. What fun that was! Still, it eventually became time to move into work that allowed me to use my artistic abilities in a different way.  It was time to figure out just how “everybody” was making all the cool things they were.  It was time for me to have my own business.

So, in 2010, still clueless about how to use my art on any sort of project that involved graphic reproduction, I started hand crafting, sewing and selling bridal accessories on Etsy.  I liked to sew and was good at it.  I didn’t WANT to earn my living as a seamstress but, that’s what I knew how to do so, that’s what I did.  Designing, making and selling bridal accessories did quite well- until it didn’t. The marketplace opened its doors to offshore factories who claimed to make handmade pieces and a flood of cheap, mass produced bridal items flooded the site. My shop sales all but disappeared. Yikes!

I took a long, hard look at what I could next. The answer was in my art. I picked my brush up and started painting again. I switched my Etsy shop to selling digital art, got to work, learned everything I was able to learn online about graphic arts, and haven’t looked back!  Finally!  I was finally making a living from selling my art and it felt just great.  I’ve fully supported myself doing this for years now and have expanded my business to selling on Design Bundles and Creative Market as well.

When you come to play in the Blog Studio here on my website, FlowerdanceStudio.com, with me, I’ll show you how to make all sorts of arts and crafts, many using my clipart, that you can be proud of.  You’ll be able to be satisfied with what you’ve made, display it in your home, and make gifts for people too.  Who knows where your new found skills will ultimately lead you and you’ll certainly have fun while learning!

Since this new blog also has a shop, you’ll find lots of digital downloads of my lovely images that are suitable for all sorts of projects.  In the near future, you’ll be able to buy prints of my artwork that are ready to hang on your wall or give as gifts. I’ll also have a FREE clipart section too and exclusive deals just for my subscribers.

Sign up for my newsletter so you’re notified whenever a new product, project or post has been added. (The form is found at the very bottom of every page as well as in other locations within the posts and pages.)

I’m glad you’re here! Come in and play!
